Knowledgeable and experienced support staff in the office, field, pharmacy, laboratory, billing, and medical record departments are all very important to EMA.
In-house Pharmacy and Laboratory
Our pharmacy and laboratory are limited to the clientele of our practice. In the pharmacy, we strive to offer supplies and drug inventory so that our clientele can purchase and receive our discounts from group purchasing.
Kathleen Craven
Office Manager
Like all young girls in KY, Kathleen was in love with horses. After college, she decided to go to the race track to fulfill her dream of working with thoroughbreds. During her time traveling to tracks on the East Coast, she worked for many top trainers as an exercise rider and groom. After that, she settled in Lexington and worked in some Equine-related fields until starting with Equine Medical in 1996. When she isn’t working, the beach is her happy place and she spends as much time there as she can.
Devon Burns
Human Resources/Administrative Assistant
Devon is a Lexington, Ky, native. In 2019, she graduated from Asbury University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and was a part of the Women’s Soccer Team during her four years there. Devon grew up riding and decided to get back into the equine industry after graduating. She has been on the EMA team since September of 2019, working as a vet tech before moving into the office in 2023. Devon loves beach vacations and coffee, watching sports and spending time with her husband, family and friends. Devon also enjoys walks with her dogs, Onyx and Ramey, as well as riding her thoroughbred, Ginger.
Lauren Mullins
Administrative Assistant
Lauren moved to Kentucky in 2013. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in Equine Science in management. While she attended UK, she was involved with the University of Kentucky Maine Chance Farm. After graduating college, Lauren went on to work as a mare and foal groom at several local thoroughbred farms. She joined the EMA team in February of 2019. Lauren enjoys traveling and spending time with her menagerie of animals.
Jennifer DeLaittre
Administrative Assistant
Jennifer is a Washington State native. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 2003. She was a part of the race track industry program there and received a Bachelor’s in Animal Science. After graduation, she began her career in Lexington, Ky as a groom at a thoroughbred farm. During her time there, she helped horses at all different stages of their lives and worked in breeding shed. Jennifer has been the Assistant Broodmare Manager for two top thoroughbred farms in the industry since 2005. She has done everything from foaling out mares, vaccinating, scheduling vet and farrier work, maintaining health records and ordering supplies. She joined the EMA team in 2023. On her free time, she enjoys drawing painting, hiking, corralling 2 adorable Labradors and spending time out on the water.
Melissa Carpenter
Pharmacy Manager
Melissa moved to Kentucky in 1999 to work as a mare/foal groom at a local thoroughbred farm. Soon after that, she went to work at a local equine hospital and teched in multiple departments. Next, she transferred to their compounding pharmacy as a customer service representative. She learned the art of compounding, both non-sterile and sterile. Melissa is a certified pharmacy tech and certified in sterile compounding. In June of 2019, Melissa joined the EMA team to manage the pharmacy. She loves to read, go bike riding, and play games with her husband and daughter.
Rachel Northcutt
Laboratory Assistant
Rachel began her career in animal care and medicine in 2016 as a Veterinary Assistant in a general, mixed animal practice in her hometown of Clinton, NC. When she moved from North Carolina to Kentucky in 2019, she worked in emergency medicine at a small animal hospital in Lexington. In the fall of 2020, she began working with EMA. Rachel started in the field assisting the doctors and performing therapies before transitioning into the lab. In her downtime, she enjoys reading, hiking, riding horses and anything dealing with food (eating, cooking and/or baking).
Deidra Long
Traveling Veterinary Assistant/Administrative Assistant
Deidra was born and raised in Lexington, Ky. She grew up with horses and enjoyed riding at a young age. In December of 2024, she graduated from Asbury University with a Bachelor's in Business Administration and a minor in Marketing. At Asbury, she was also a part of the Women's soccer team. After graduation, she was pulled back into the equine world. Deidra joined EMA in January of 2025 as a traveling veterinary assistant. Deidra loves to travel, especially to somewhere tropical. She also loves coffee, snuggles with her cat "Mr. Sir" and spending time with family and friends.
Isabella Greene
Veterinary Assistant
Isabella grew up in Michigan and spent time eventing her horse and working at a hunter/jumper barn. She moved to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky and study animal sciences. During her time in Kentucky, she has worked for a small animal hospital and a quarantine barn for imported horses. Isabella joined the EMA team in 2023 and plans on applying to veterinary school.
Lauren Peters
Veterinary Assistant
Lauren is a Lexington local and has grown up in the heart of Kentucky's thoroughbred industry. She is currently finishing her Bachelor's in Equine Science with a concentration in Rehabilitation at Midway University. During college, she has learned extensively about equine healthcare and physiology. Previously, she worked as a groom at a standardbred foaling operation and interned with an equine adoption center doing therapy work on their horses. Lauren joined EMA February of 2024. In her free time, she enjoys playing table top games, kayaking and curling up with a book next to her cat.
Ana Bueno
Veterinary Assistant
Ana was born in Ecuador. She worked with horses, was a science teacher, and taught English to Spanish speaking kids. Ana moved to the United States over 20 years ago with her husband and three kids. In Kentucky, she owned an eventing barn with her family for many years. Ana taught vaulting, beginner riders, and managed the barn. She had always dreamed of being a vet assistant so when her farm sold, she joined EMA in December of 2023. Ana still rides and enjoys competing in eventing and dressage.
Hiram Dulin
Veterinary Assistant
Hiram grew up on a farm just outside of Lexington, Kentucky in the community of Athens. He and his family raised tobacco and cattle on their farm. While working on the farm during his youth, Hiram found a passion for animals. In 2020, Hiram went to work for a fox hunt that kindled his love for horses and hounds. While working for the hunt, he decided to go back to school to become a veterinarian. He is currently on a pre-professional track at the University of Kentucky studying Biochemistry. After graduation, Hiram intends to apply to veterinary school. Hiram joined EMA in 2023.
Katherine Schmidt
Veterinary Assistant
Kate is from Connecticut and grew up riding horses since she was six years old. Kate studied biomedical science at the University of New Hampshire. She graduated in 2023 and moved to New York to work as a veterinary assistant. In New York, she worked with Thoroughbreds and sport horses. Kate joined EMA in March of 2025. In her free time, she enjoys reading, facetiming with her nieces and nephews, and baking.

Nicole Foulkrod
Veterinary Assistant
Nicole moved from Wisconsin to Kentucky with her husband and daughter in 2024. In Wisconsin, she worked as a bull stud handler and hoof trimmer. Prior to that, she worked at an equine veterinary clinic and multiple different horse boarding and training barns. She started at EMA in October 2024. Nicole enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her pets.
Morgan Sherrow
Veterinary Assistant
Morgan is from Wilmore, Kentucky where she grew up with her grandparents. She later moved to Lexington with her husband. She attended Penn Foster College to study Veterinary Assisting. Shortly after, she started her career in the small and exotic animal world. While working as a veterinary assistant, she obtained her pet grooming certification. Morgan still routinely serves her clients with her house-call pet grooming business. She eventually decided to leave small and exotic practice to pursue her dream of working with horses. She joined EMA in January of 2025. When she is not working, you can find Morgan spending time with her daughter, husband, and her variety of fur and scaly babies.
Jessica Reams
Veterinary Assistant
Jessica was born into a military family and moved around until she graduated from high school. She attended Morehead State University and received an undergraduate degree in Animal Science. After graduation she married her husband, Ian. In December 2024, Jessica graduated from Murray State University with her Master’s in Agriculture with an emphasis in Education. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, two Australian Shepherds, and her horse, Kai.
Shelbe Cochran
Veterinary Assistant
Shelbe graduated from Carver Career and Technical Education Center in Charleston, WV, where she completed the veterinary technician program. After taking her national board licensure exam, she is now a Kentucky licensed veterinary technician. Shelbe is continuing her education and is currently obtaining her Bachelor's in Veterinary Technology. Shelbe is from a small town in southern Ohio and spent most of high school career breaking and training horses for local farms. She also worked at veterinary clinics. She moved to Lexington to attend an internship with a local equine hospital prior to graduation and decided to stay in Kentucky. Shelbe has two horses of her own that she competes on. In her spare time, she starts young horses and offers training services. She joined EMA in March of 2024.
